Foreign Minister Asim meets with his Malaysian Counterpart
19 January 2017, Kuala Lumpur: Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr Mohamed Asim has today met with his Malaysian Counterpart, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman. at the sidelines of the OIC Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims Minority in Myanmar, held in Malaysia.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Asim congratulated the Malaysian Government for hosting the important session on the situation of Rohingya Muslims Minority.
Minister Asim expressed that Maldives attaches great importance to its relations with Malaysia, and emphasised with appreciation, on the continued cooperation in the areas of human resource development, trade and commerce. Additionally, Minister Asim briefed Foreign Minister Anifah about the prospective projects for investments in the Maldives.
Minister Anifah underscored that the Maldives has always been close to Malaysia’s heart, being Muslim brothers with common interest and common laws. Minister Anifah further expressed assurances that the Maldivians will always have a ‘second home’ in Malaysia.
At today’s meeting Foreign Ministers also expressed hope and confidence in the continued support and engagement between the Maldives and Malaysia.
Foreign Minister Asim was joined at the meeting by Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia H.E. Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Ms. Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Moomina Ibrahim.
