Foreign Minister Asim meets with OIC SG, reiterates Government’s commitment to working with OIC in resolving the challenges faced by Muslim Ummah

19 January 2017, Kuala Lumpur: Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr Mohamed Asim has met with the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al Othaimeen.

In the meeting held this evening at the sidelines of the OIC Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on Situation of Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar, Minister Asim and Secretary General discussed the key challenges faced by OIC Member states and ways to resolve these issues.

During the meeting, Minister Asim congratulated Dr. Othaimeen on his recent appointment as the Secretary General. Minister Asim also thanked OIC for convening this important meeting which was concluded successfully. Minister Asim further conveyed the Government’s full commitment to working with OIC and expressed confidence that Maldives will continue to receive the same level of support, engagement and assistance from the OIC in the future.

OIC Secretary General thanked Minister for the sentiments and expressed his appreciation to the Government of Maldives’ active role in critical issues facing the Muslims around the globe.

Foreign Minister Asim was joined at the meeting by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ibrahim Shaheeb, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia H.E. Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia Ms. Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Moomina Ibrahim.
